The Open Community on Ethics in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (OCEANIS) announced today that Canada’s CIO Strategy Council will succeed the IEEEs Standards Association (IEEE SA) as Secretariat in 2020.

As an open global community, OCEANIS addresses the need for coordination and collaboration among standards setting bodies and related organizations to the unprecedented challenges fueled by the rapid rate of technology development and convergence through digitization.

As the new Secretariat, the Council’s Executive Director, Keith Jansa, will serve as Chair of the OCEANIS Steering Committee.

“As a founding member of OCEANIS, CIO Strategy Council is proud to take on this new mandate” said Keith Jansa, Executive Director of CIO Strategy Council. “I would also like to extend my gratitude to the outgoing chair, Don Wright, and to IEEE for their leadership and guiding vision over the past two year. I very much applaud the progress being made by OCEANIS members and admire the growing partnerships in pushing forward on shared research and projects in such a complex area.”

“It has been an honor for IEEE to serve as the first OCEANIS secretariat since its inception in 2018,” said Don Wright, IEEE OCEANIS Steering Committee Chair. “Since the beginning, the goal was to share the responsibility for the OCEANIS Secretariat among OCEANIS members on an annual basis, and IEEE is pleased that CIO Strategy Council has graciously volunteered to fill this role in 2020. IEEE looks forward to working alongside CIO Strategy Council in the transition of the Secretariat, and to further the growth and evolution of OCEANIS.”
